Community Services (Guernsey)
The Health and Social Services department of the States of Guernsey provide many of the population’s care needs. According to the States of Guernsey website;
the community teams provide nursing and social support in the home of people over 18 years of age
Their aim is to help people to maintain the best possible quality of life and independence, and to remain in their own homes if that is their wish.
Each community team includes social workers, senior carers and carers, district nurses, community staff nurses, auxiliary nurses, occupational therapist and support workers.
Other services are also available including:
A service available for those who are unable to do their own shopping as a result of illness or being housebound
Meals on Wheels
A service that delivers ready cooked meals to those in need.
A service that provides individuals with transport to the various Day Centres, medical appointments etc, and delivery and collection of community based equipment.
For more details of what the team can do for you and how you can gain access please see the States of Guernsey Website
Community Services (Third Sector)
There are a wide variety of charities on the island. There are currently over 300 - that provide services and facilities and help support the States of Guernsey, and the Association of Guernsey Charities – the umbrella organisation for the third sector in Guernsey – has an excellent website which provides information and contact details for each charity such as the Womens Refuge, Cancer Research UK (Guernsey) and the Citizen’s Advice Bureau. It also provides details for those interested in becoming a volunteer.
