The Little Chapel in Guernsey: 10 Fun Facts

One of Guernsey's most prized attractions, The Little Chapel is located at the Blanchelande Girls College in Les Vauxbelets, St. Andrew. Read on for 10 fun facts about this island icon.

  1. The Little Chapel is one of the world's smallest chapels!

  2. It was built by Brother Déodat, who arrived in Guernsey in December 1913.

  3. The original building measured 9 by 4.5 feet and was quickly torn down in favour of new construction.

  4. The Little Chapel seen today is beautifully decorated with shells, colourful china and pebbles

  5. Entry is free! Donations are welcome.

  6. The Little Chapel originally became famous when an illustrated article was published in the Daily Mail.

  7. Today, Blanchelande Girls College holds guardianship.

  8. Annually, on August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, a torchlight procession is held throughout Les Vauxbelets.

  9. The Little Chapel is home to stunning crypts, a grotto and a shrine to Our Lady and Saint Bernadette.
